Veeam Updates¶
Regularly updating Veeam Backup & Replication is important for security, bug fixes, compatibility, and correct operation with the Cloud4You Veeam Cloud Connect service.
Cloud4You provides customers with Veeam installation images intended for environment installation and updates.
Veeam images from Cloud4You
If you need a Veeam Backup & Replication installation or update image, contact Cloud4You Support. You will receive information about the image appropriate for the currently supported service version.
Before you start the update¶
Before updating:
- check the current Veeam Backup & Replication version and build,
- make sure the planned version is compatible with Cloud4You Veeam Cloud Connect,
- create a Veeam configuration backup,
- make sure the latest backup jobs completed successfully,
- schedule a maintenance window,
- make sure no important backup or restore jobs will run during the update,
- download the correct image provided by Cloud4You.
Cloud Connect — version compatibility
Do not upgrade to a newer major version of Veeam Backup & Replication without first confirming compatibility with the Cloud4You service.
In a Veeam Cloud Connect environment, the Service Provider server must run the same or a newer major version of Veeam Backup & Replication than the customer server.
1. Check the current Veeam version¶
In the:
console, open:
Check:
Example:
Before submitting an update-related request, it is worth providing Cloud4You Support with the exact build number currently in use.
2. Create a configuration backup¶
Before the update, we recommend creating a current Veeam configuration backup.
In the console, go to:
Check:
- whether Configuration Backup is enabled,
- when the last copy was created,
- where the configuration backup is stored.
If you need a fresh copy before the update, start a configuration backup manually.
Important
A Veeam configuration backup makes it easier to recover the backup server and its settings if problems occur during the update.
3. Schedule a maintenance window¶
A Veeam update may require:
- stopping Veeam services,
- updating the configuration database,
- updating infrastructure components,
- restarting Windows.
Therefore, perform the update outside an active backup window.
Before starting, check:
and make sure that no:
- backups,
- Backup Copy Jobs,
- restores,
- replications,
- other jobs that require Veeam infrastructure
are running.
4. Download the Veeam image¶
Cloud4You provides Veeam installation images for customers using the service.
If you do not have the correct image:
- contact Cloud4You Support,
- provide the current Veeam Backup & Replication version,
- indicate that you use Veeam Cloud Connect,
- request an image intended for the update.
Example information for the request:
Current Veeam version: 12.x / 13.x
Build: x.x.x.x
Service: Veeam Cloud Connect
Purpose: Veeam Backup & Replication update
Tip
Before updating a larger environment, it is also worth providing information about integrations in use, such as VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox, Veeam Agents, or additional plug-ins.
5. Mount the ISO image¶
After receiving the image, copy it to the Veeam Backup & Replication server or mount it directly to the virtual machine.
In Windows, you can:
- right-click the ISO file,
- select:
The image will appear as an additional DVD drive.
You can also mount the ISO from the hypervisor if the Veeam Backup Server runs as a virtual machine.
6. Start the installer¶
Open the mounted image and run:
Important
Veeam recommends starting the update from the main Setup.exe located on the installation image.
Do not manually start individual installers from ISO subdirectories unless required by a specific vendor procedure.
Update or upgrade?¶
Depending on the version in use, the installer may provide different operations.
Update¶
For an update within a supported version, you may see:
followed by the update wizard.
An update may include:
- security fixes,
- cumulative updates,
- bug fixes,
- a newer build within the same product line.
Upgrade¶
When moving to a newer product version, the installer may display:
Example:
Major-version upgrade
When using Veeam Cloud Connect, the Service Provider infrastructure must be upgraded first.
Upgrade your own Veeam Backup Server only after Cloud4You has confirmed compatibility with the new version.
7. Go through the update wizard¶
The Veeam wizard performs configuration checks before starting the update.
Depending on the update type, it may check:
- operating system compatibility,
- installed components,
- required libraries,
- database version,
- compatibility of the current product version,
- environment readiness for the update.
If the wizard reports:
read the message and assess its impact.
If it reports:
do not start the update until the issue has been resolved.
8. Start the update¶
After the configuration checks, the wizard displays the components that will be updated.
Review the summary and start the update.
During the process:
- do not shut down the server,
- do not restart services manually,
- do not start backup jobs,
- wait for all stages to complete.
Depending on the update type, a server restart may be required.
9. Update infrastructure components¶
After the main Veeam Backup Server has been updated, some remote components may also require an update.
This includes, among other things:
- Backup Proxy,
- Backup Repository,
- Mount Server,
- WAN Accelerator,
- other managed Veeam components.
If a component requires an update, Veeam may mark it as:
In that case, update the component from the console.
Note
The Veeam installer may also allow remote components to be updated automatically during the upgrade process.
10. Check the Service Provider¶
After the update, go to:
Check the connection to Cloud4You.
To force Veeam to retrieve current service information again, use:
After the operation, check:
- Service Provider status,
- Cloud Repository availability,
- allocated quota,
- absence of communication errors.
11. Check the Cloud Repository¶
Go to:
Check whether the Cloud4You Cloud Repository is available.
Then go to:
Make sure existing backups are visible.
12. Run a Backup Copy Job test¶
After the update, we recommend running a test:
Check whether:
- the job starts correctly,
- a connection to the Cloud Gateway is established,
- data is transferred,
- the session ends with
Success.
Do not limit post-update verification to checking that the Veeam console starts successfully.
13. Perform a restore test¶
After a major update, it is worth performing a test restore of a small file.
Example path:
This verifies the complete chain:

Updates and Veeam Cloud Connect¶
For Cloud Connect, version compatibility on both sides of the service is particularly important.
Flow:
Veeam allows the Service Provider to run a newer supported version than the customer.
However, a scenario in which the customer upgrades to a newer major version of Veeam Backup & Replication than the Service Provider infrastructure is not supported.
Therefore, when moving to a new major version:
1. Cloud4You upgrades the Cloud Connect infrastructure
2. Cloud4You confirms the supported version
3. Customer receives the correct image
4. Customer upgrades Veeam Backup & Replication
Info
The order above applies to transitions between major product versions. Patches and cumulative updates do not require the same upgrade order between the Service Provider and customer.
Problems after the update¶
Service Provider is unavailable¶
Perform:
If the problem persists, check:
- access to the Cloud Gateway,
- DNS,
- TCP port 6180,
- credentials,
- messages in the session history.
Port test:
Cloud Repository is not visible¶
Check:
Then perform a Service Provider Rescan.

Backup Copy Job stopped working¶
Check:
- Service Provider status,
- Cloud Repository availability,
- quota,
- job history,
- components marked as
Out of Date.

Best practices¶
When updating a Veeam environment, we recommend:
- not updating a production environment without verifying compatibility,
- using an image intended for the supported service version,
- creating a current Configuration Backup,
- scheduling the update in a maintenance window,
- updating required infrastructure components,
- performing a Service Provider
Rescanafter the update, - running a Backup Copy Job test,
- performing a restore test.
Post-update checklist¶
After the update, verify:
- [ ] the Veeam console starts correctly,
- [ ] all Veeam services are running,
- [ ] infrastructure components are up to date,
- [ ] the Cloud4You Service Provider is available,
- [ ] the Cloud Repository is visible,
- [ ] the quota is displayed correctly,
- [ ] the Backup Copy Job works,
- [ ] a restore test has been performed.
If all items have been verified, the update can be considered complete.
