Configuring an Email Client¶
An email account created in cPanel can be added to an email application such as:
- Microsoft Outlook,
- Mozilla Thunderbird,
- Apple Mail,
- a mail app on your phone,
- another application that supports IMAP/SMTP.
The safest option is to use the SSL/TLS settings shown directly in cPanel.
1. Where to find the configuration details¶
Log in to cPanel and go to:
Email → Email Accounts
Find the mailbox you want to configure, for example:
Then click:
Connect Devices
This section shows the exact settings required to configure your email client.
You will find information such as:
Use the details shown in your own cPanel. The server name may be different for different hosting accounts.
2. IMAP or POP3¶
For normal email use, we recommend:
IMAP synchronizes messages with the server.
This means you can use:
at the same time and see the same messages and folders everywhere.
POP3 is mainly used to download mail to a device and is not the best choice in most cases.
3. Typical IMAP settings¶
For a secure SSL/TLS connection, the most commonly used settings are:
Read the incoming mail server name from:
Email → Email Accounts → Connect Devices
4. Outgoing mail settings — SMTP¶
SMTP is used to send messages.
For an SSL/TLS connection, cPanel typically provides:
Use the full email address as the username:
The password is the same as the mailbox password.
5. Example configuration¶
Example:
Email address:
kontakt@domena.pl
Username:
kontakt@domena.pl
Password:
mailbox password
Incoming mail:
IMAP
IMAP server:
name shown in Connect Devices
IMAP port:
993
Encryption:
SSL/TLS
SMTP server:
name shown in Connect Devices
SMTP port:
465
Encryption:
SSL/TLS
SMTP authentication:
Yes
Do not copy an example server name from another guide. Always check it in your own cPanel.
6. Configuration in Microsoft Outlook¶
When adding the account:
- Open Outlook.
- Select the option to add a new account.
- Enter the full email address:
- If Outlook does not configure the account automatically, select manual configuration.
- Select:
IMAP
- Enter the settings from:
cPanel → Email → Email Accounts → Connect Devices
- Enter the mailbox password.
- Save the configuration.
7. Configuration in Mozilla Thunderbird¶
- Open Thunderbird.
- Select the option to add an existing email account.
- Enter:
- If Thunderbird does not detect the settings automatically, select manual configuration.
- Set:
- For SMTP, use the settings shown by cPanel.
- Save the configuration.
8. Configuration on a phone¶
When adding the account, select:
Other
or:
IMAP
Then enter:
You can find the exact server names in:
Email → Email Accounts → Connect Devices
9. Email login¶
A very common mistake is using only the mailbox name.
Do not use:
Use the full address:
This applies to:
- IMAP,
- SMTP,
- POP3.
10. Incoming mail works, but sending does not¶
If you can receive messages but cannot send them, check the SMTP settings.
The most common causes are:
- incorrect SMTP port,
- missing SSL/TLS encryption,
- SMTP authentication disabled,
- incorrect username,
- incorrect password.
The SMTP settings should match the information in:
Connect Devices
11. After changing the password¶
If you change the mailbox password in cPanel, you must also update it on all devices and applications using that account.
Example:
The old password will stop working.
12. Simplest procedure¶
To configure email:
- Log in to cPanel.
- Go to:
Email → Email Accounts
- Next to your mailbox, click:
Connect Devices
- Read the SSL/TLS settings.
- In your email client, select IMAP.
- Enter the full email address as the username.
- Enter the IMAP and SMTP settings shown in cPanel.
- Enter the mailbox password.
- Save the configuration.
- Send a test message.
Done.
