Restoring Data from Tape — Tape as a Service¶
The Tape as a Service service allows backup copies to be stored on tape and restored when the data is no longer available in the standard backup repository.
The restore process is performed on the Cloud4You side.
1. Requesting a restore¶
If you need to recover data from tape, contact Cloud4You technical support.
In the request, provide as much detail as possible:
- service or tenant name,
- scope of data to be recovered,
- approximate backup date,
- machine or backup name, if known.
Example:
The more accurate the information in the request, the easier it is to identify the correct tape copy.
2. Tape restore by Cloud4You¶
After identifying the correct copy, Cloud4You starts the process of restoring data from tape.
The data is not restored directly to the customer's infrastructure.
First, the copy stored on tape is restored to the Veeam environment and assigned to the correct tenant.
3. The copy appears in the tenant¶
After the tape restore is complete, the recovered copy becomes available again in the customer's tenant.
The customer will see it in their Veeam console in the same way as a standard backup stored in the Cloud Repository.
The process looks as follows:

4. Restoring data by the customer¶
Once the copy is made available in the tenant, the customer can perform standard restore operations from their own Veeam console.
Depending on the backup type, this may include, for example:
- restoring an entire machine,
- restoring individual files,
- restoring selected application items,
- other restore operations supported by Veeam.
There is no need for the customer to perform a direct restore from tape.
Once Cloud4You restores the copy, it becomes available in the Veeam environment as a regular backup that can be used for further recovery operations.
5. Important information¶
Restoring from tape is different from restoring from a standard disk repository.
The copy must first be:
- located on the correct medium,
- read from tape,
- restored to the Veeam environment,
- assigned to the correct tenant.
Only after this process is complete will it become visible in the customer's console.
6. Information to include in the request¶
To speed up identification of the correct copy, include:
Example:
If the exact date is not known, provide an approximate time period.
7. Simplest procedure¶
If you need data from tape:
- Contact Cloud4You technical support.
- Provide the tenant, backup or machine name, and backup date.
- Cloud4You will locate the correct copy on tape.
- The copy will be restored to your tenant.
- When the operation is complete, you will see it in your Veeam console.
- Perform the required standard restore operation in Veeam.
Done.
