Cloud Repository¶
A Cloud Repository is a repository provided by Cloud4You as part of the Veeam Cloud Connect service. It allows backups to be stored outside the customer's local infrastructure.
After Cloud4You is added as a Service Provider, Veeam Backup & Replication automatically retrieves information about repositories and assigned limits (quota) associated with the account.
You do not add the Cloud Repository manually
The Cloud Repository is configured on the Cloud4You side and assigned to your Veeam Cloud Connect account. After connecting to the Service Provider, the repository should automatically appear in the Veeam Backup & Replication console.
How does the Cloud Repository work?¶
In simplified form, the data flow looks like this:

Cloud4You backup infrastructure
The Cloud Repository can be used as a target for, among other things:
- VMware vSphere virtual machine backups,
- Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machine backups,
- Veeam Agent backups,
- Backup Copy Job tasks.
The Cloud Repository can be used as either a primary or an additional backup storage location.
Backup Copy Job
Veeam supports copying backups to the Cloud Repository. A Backup Copy Job that uses the Cloud Repository as its source is not supported.
1. Check Cloud Repository availability¶
After the Service Provider has been added successfully, open:
Veeam Backup & Replication
and go to:
The repository provided by Cloud4You should appear in the repository list.
The repository name is assigned by Cloud4You and may differ depending on the purchased service.
For example:
Tip
If you have just added the Service Provider, the repository will be retrieved automatically when you finish the connection wizard.
2. Check the allocated capacity¶
Cloud4You assigns a specific disk space limit (quota) to each Cloud Repository.
Example:
Veeam treats the assigned quota as the maximum space available to the account on the specified Cloud Repository.
Monitor free space
Insufficient free space may cause subsequent backup sessions or operations that require additional capacity to fail.
If you need more space, contact Cloud4You Support.
3. Rescan the Service Provider¶
If the Cloud Repository is not visible or Cloud4You has assigned new resources to your account, rescan the Service Provider.
Go to:
Then:
- select the Cloud4You Service Provider,
- right-click it,
- select:
Veeam will reconnect to Cloud4You infrastructure and retrieve the current list of resources assigned to the account.
When the operation is complete, return to:
and check whether the Cloud Repository is visible.
4. Rescan the Cloud Repository¶
The Cloud Repository can also be rescanned directly.
Go to:
Right-click the Cloud Repository and select:
This operation may be useful, for example, after the allocated quota has been changed.
Info
After Cloud4You changes the quota, the new value may be retrieved when the next job runs. If you want to refresh the information immediately, perform a Rescan of the Service Provider or Cloud Repository.
5. Using the Cloud Repository¶
Once the service has been configured correctly, the Cloud Repository can be selected as a target for supported Veeam jobs.
A typical Cloud4You scenario looks like this:
This solution allows you to keep an additional copy of your data outside the local infrastructure.
When creating a Backup Copy Job, the Cloud Repository will be available in the list of target repositories.

Backing up directly to the Cloud Repository¶
Veeam Cloud Connect also allows selected backup types to be written directly to the Cloud Repository.
According to Veeam documentation, a Cloud Repository can be used for:
- VMware vSphere virtual machine backups,
- Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machine backups,
- VMware Cloud Director backups,
- Veeam Agent backups,
- Backup Copy Jobs.
Other platforms
Direct virtual machine backup to a Cloud Repository is supported for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V. For other platforms, verify the supported scenario — in many cases, the correct approach is to create a local backup first and then send a copy to the Cloud Repository using a Backup Copy Job.
Backups in the Cloud Repository¶
You can view backups stored in the Cloud Repository under:
Encrypted backups may be displayed separately:
From backups stored in the Cloud Repository, you can perform supported restore operations.
For example:
- restore an entire virtual machine,
- restore guest OS files,
- restore disks,
- restore application items,
- export data from a backup.
Detailed instructions:
Backup encryption¶
If data is sent outside the local infrastructure, we recommend using backup encryption.
Configure encryption in the Veeam job settings.
Encryption password
Store the password used to encrypt the backup in a secure location. Losing the password may make encrypted data inaccessible.
The availability and scope of operations the Service Provider can perform on encrypted backups also depend on the options selected when adding the Service Provider.
Common issues¶
Cloud Repository is not visible¶
Check:
- whether the Service Provider has been added correctly,
- whether the connection to the Cloud Gateway works,
- whether the account is active,
- whether you are using the correct credentials,
- whether Cloud4You has assigned a quota to your account.
Then perform:
Repository is visible, but quota is outdated¶
Perform:
You can also rescan the Service Provider.
No free space in the Cloud Repository¶
If repository usage is approaching the assigned limit:
- check the configured retention policy,
- verify the number of stored restore points,
- check whether unnecessary old backups remain in the repository,
- if necessary, contact Cloud4You to increase the quota.
Do not manually delete backup files outside Veeam mechanisms.
Summary¶
A correctly configured Cloud Repository should meet the following conditions:
- [x] the Cloud4You Service Provider is connected,
- [x] the Cloud Repository is visible in
Backup Infrastructure, - [x] the quota matches the purchased capacity,
- [x] the repository is available as a job target,
- [x] sufficient free space is available.
After verifying the repository, you can proceed to create a job that copies backups to Cloud4You.
